this is a passive solar water heater.water fills the tubes and as it heats,the hotter water rises up through the manifold and into the tank on top. the colder water then flows down to the bottom of the tubes and process repeats untill all of water in the tank is of usable temperature. water can then be taken from the tank using a pump or gravity feed from the roof and then replaced with fresh cold water in the inlet on the top.
the tank is non-pressured when in use,so this unit cannot be filled with city water and left under pressure. it can be filled by use of a ball valve connected to city pressure after some hot water has been used by for example,a shower.since it cannot be pressurized,the ball valve must be manually used to fill the tank and then shut off once filled.
