Water softener is the ion exchange technology ,the resin has the function take place the calcium and magnesium in water by sodium on resin , in order to get rid of calcium and magnesium and all the metal ion in water to achieve the soft water ,to make sure there are no scale left in water.

There are many softener resin in the water softener equipment,and many soft mineral sodium are on this artificial ion exchange resin ,then they can make exchange reaction with calcium & magnesium and so on in water.the resin is a multi-pore and insoluble material.there are multimillion micro plastic balls in morden water softener equipmets,there are many exchange positon on the plastic balls can absorb cation .when the resin is fresh,all of the exchange position are accupyed by sodium ,but the resin has the instinct of strong charge is top priority, as the charge of calcium and magnesium are stronger then sodium,so when the water with calcium and magnesium pass through the resin tank and touch the resin ball, calcium and magnesium are absorbed onto the inward resin ,then the output water will be softer. when there are full of these calcium and magnesium and other metal ion on the resin. the water softener will not in the position of work ,it must be regeneration
